Q: I’M CLUELESS. WHERE DO I START?
A: You need to have an iTunes account to use valslist. If you don’t already have one, it’s easy. Go to the link on our Home Page and it will direct you. By the way, simply setting up an iTunes account won’t cost you anything.
Q: I’VE NEVER USED iTUNES AND MY iPOD IS STILL IN THE BOX. I DON’T THINK I CAN DO THIS.
A: Our website will explain everything so you can be independent and fill your iPod or burn CD’s on your own! You’ll impress everyone with your new-found knowledge. Keep reading our FAQ’s and you’ll soon be a pro. It will be addicting.
Q: HOW DO I NAVIGATE valslist?
A: We’ve tried to make our site user-friendly for everyone, regardless of how computer or iTunes savvy you are. The header (which lists all of our pages) is at the top of every page. Simply click on the area you’d like to go to and you’ll be transferred there.
You can see our playlists, hear songs (30 second clips), and buy music through our iTunes link when you’re ready.
Q: WHAT ALL CAN I DO ON THE valslist WEBSITE?
A: If you’re a novice, we’ll help you get back into the music scene. You’ll learn to navigate iTunes, discover new music, and fill your iPod. If you’re a music hobbyist with a full library of tunes, you’ll hear cutting edge music that’s anything but Top 40. Listen by category: By Playlist, By Song, By Artist, By Tempo (fast, med, slow) and By Genre.
Q: HOW DO I HEAR A SONG?
A: From the “See Our Music Now” page, click “View by Playlist” then “See Playlist” then “Hear Playlist Now.” This launches iTunes to your selected playlist. Simply double click on any song you’d like to hear for a 30 second sample.
Q: I CLICKED “HEAR PLAYLIST NOW” BUT I DON’T SEE THE PLAYLIST.
A: If you already have iTunes open, it’s probably right underneath your open valslist window. Drag the valslist window over so you can see what’s underneath. Click on the window underneath and it will pull it to the top in full view.
Q: HOW DO I KNOW IF I’M IN THE valslist WEBSITE OR I’M IN iTunes?
A: valslist pages are black. iTunes pages are white.
Q: ONCE I’M IN iTunes HOW DO I GET BACK TO valslist?
A: When you click on a playlist in valslist, it opens it in iTunes as a new window. However, your valslist window is still running underneath. So, simply click on your browser (Safari, Firefox, or Windows Explorer) and valslist will pop back up.
Q: HOW DO I BUY MUSIC?
A: Easy. Remember, you must have an iTunes account! Buying through valslist is the SAME PRICE as buying directly through iTunes. Go to the playlist you want to buy and click on “Hear Entire Playlist Now.” This will launch iTunes and display the playlist you selected (remember: white background means you’re in iTunes.) Simply click on “Buy All Songs” next to the album cover at the top. Or, if you want to buy single songs, click “Buy Song” next to those songs. iTunes will ask for your password for security. Wait a moment for iTunes to complete the transaction.
Q: WHERE DOES MY PURCHASED MUSIC GO?
A: Opening an iTunes Account creates a Music Library folder on your computer. It is in the upper left organizer (margin) of the iTunes window. Every song you purchase goes directly into your iTunes Library. You can also see all of your recently purchased tracks at once in the Purchased Music folder, located underneath LIbrary. If you buy an entire playlist, it will go into your music library, as well as create a new playlist in the left organizer by title (ie: valslist: Commence.)This makes it super easy to burn a CD from that playlist.
Q: HOW DO I CREATE MY OWN PLAYLIST FROM PURCHASED MUSIC?
A: In the bottom left corner of the iTunes window is a button with a plus (+) on it. Clicking this button creates a new playlist in the left organizer. Or you can click FILE, NEW PLAYLIST and it will do the same thing. To name this new file double cick on it and type your title. Press enter to complete. Simply drag songs from your Library or Purchased Music folders to the new playlist to add them. To rearrange the order of songs in a playlist, just drag them up and down in the list. Tip: most CD’s will hold 17-18 songs so don’t make your playlist too big if you want to burn it to a CD.
Q: HOW DO I SEARCH FOR A PARTICULAR SONG AND/OR ARTIST?
A: To find a song, click on Music Library in your organizer. Next,in the upper right window of iTunes go to the oblong white bubble that says “Search” underneath it. Put your cursor to the right of the Q- and type in the name of the song, artist, or both that you’re searching. In a moment, your song will be displayed below. If you want that song in a playlist, click and drag it to that playlist in your organizer and let go. Tip: you’ll know you’re dragging it correctly when you see a + sign.
Q: HOW DO I BURN A CD?
A: Go to your organizer (left margin of iTunes window) and click on the playlist you want to burn to a CD. In the lower right corner of the iTunes window is a button that says Burn Disc. Click on this button, pop in a blank CD. It usually takes 5 minutes to burn. Press EJECT when finished and CD will pop out. Make sure to title your new CD.
Q: HOW DO I MAKE A JEWEL CASE COVER FOR MY NEW CD?
A: Easy too. While your CD is burning, click FILE, PRINT, and some choices will pop up – Tcxt, Mosaic, etc. Click on your choice, then # copies, and print. Tip: the Mosaic is a cool color montage of album covers in your playlist. Great for a gift CD.
Q: HOW DO I UPLOAD SONGS TO MY iPOD?
A: The iPod is designed to sync with your entire iTunes Library and all playlists when you plug it into the computer. If you have more songs in your Library than can fit on you iPod (common if you have a Nano), then manually drag and drop the songs you want.Your iPod booklet is very user-friendly with simple instructions. Read it for more detail.
Q: WHAT CAN I DO WITH THE “VIEW BY ARTIST” SECTION?
A: If you like a particular artist on valslist, click on “View by Artist” to see all other valslist songs by that artist. To hear those songs click “Hear Song” and it will take you to that artist’s album in iTunes. You’ll be able to listen to other songs by him/her and buy one song or the entire album.
Q: WHAT CAN I DO WITH THE “VIEW BY SONG” SECTION?
A: See if a particular song you like is on valslist. Or, use it to list all valslist songs by a particular genre or tempo (ie: list all slow songs or all rock songs.)
Q: MY FAVORITE ARTIST ISN’T ON valslist. COULD YOU CHECK THIS ARTIST OUT AND POSSIBLY INCLUDE HIM ON YOUR SITE?
A: Absolutely! Go to our “Contact Us” page and email us the artist’s name. We love finding new stuff. But remember, valslist is picky – we’ve got to love it to include it.
Q: THERE’S A BELL SYMBOL NEXT TO SOME OF THE SONGS ON THE WHITE iTUNES PAGE. WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?
A: This song is available as a ring tone for your mobile phone.
Q: CAN I GIVE A PLAYLIST AS A GIFT?
A: Absolutely! You may gift any playlist that you have purchased. Simply highlight the playlist title in your left margin under “Playlists” and click on the tiny blue arrow to the right. Next, click on “Give Playlist.” This will take you to a gift form for this playlist. Complete the form and your gift will be sent. Easy as that. Valslist thanks you for spreading the word!
